S T A N D O UT . . .

After explaining that its our imperfections that lead us to Christianity, I was asked, ‘Why then do you people try to be perfect? Why can’t you just chill out?’ Something to be understood is that from the word go, Christianity is about misfits. You come to Christ seeking to be made whole from your imperfections. As He perfects you, He takes you from one level of being a misfit to another level of the same. That is, initially, you could not fit into the normal crowd because of your imperfections. After meeting Christ, you can’t fit in because of your faith and mindset. ( 2nd Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new)

In your transformation through Christ, the worldly standards and perspectives are not for you.(Romans 12:2 and be not conformed to this world; but ye be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God) The renewal of ones mind happens as one interacts with God. That is through the Bible, worship, prayer, devotion and the sorts. God replaces the worldly perspective of things and gives you his perspective. The end result is that you will not conform to the patterns of the world. And then the world will see you as a misfit.

In this, what makes sense to you will not make sense to the world. Difference is, you would have seen the light yet they will still be in darkness. This will breed a difference in opinion. The tricky part is that a difference in opinion comes as temptation to us Christians. The word temptation may sound so big but it isnt. A temptation is a situation that is born out of the truth being challenged by an opinion. For example, Eve was told by God not to eat of the fruit because it has its own consequences(truth) then the devil came and induced an opinion to Eve- and she fell. Many of us Christians fall for these temptations. Not because we are weak but because we have not completely understood the truth. The truth is for every temptation, there’s a way out. (1st Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so you can endure it)

downloadFor us misfits, our only call is to stand out. The battle belongs and was won by God himself. (1st John 2:13 I am writing to you, fathers,  that you have known him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young people, that you have conquered the evil one. To stand out means holding onto God’s perspective of things and letting go of opinions coming from the world. For God is truth and constant, the world is all about opinion. Opinion can never challenge the truth. When the rest of the world sits, shifts and dance around with their opinion, stand with your truth. It is our only call as Christians. Stand out and be misfits.

God knew that standing out makes us a target. So he gave Christians weapons and protection. I will discuss weapons and protection in my next post under the category of religion.
