L I N G E R …

“Please remind the Lord to leave his light on for me.” He prayed, he didn’t know to whom; but he prayed. “My eyes have seen the path is headed -it goes down and down in the tombs and in the depths to which the truth I buried. Lord, would you have it here with me and don’t be worried, where I stand now, there’s no need to worry. I’m fine Lord, but will you stay with me? Play with me Lord. Mind not my ego, it’s only a soul – a friend I need. I’m fine Lord, but stay with me!” He prayed, he didn’t know to whom but he prayed.

He prayed, he didn’t know to whom but he prayed. He prayed after yet another morning of waking up to see a reflection in a mirror that he couldn’t recognize. He knew it was not him on the other side of the mirror. He knew he needed a saviour. He had been told about religion; so he prayed. He had been advised not to pray to Jesus because Jesus was a white man with blue eyes and the people who believed in Him and brought his message enslaved Africans. This confused him because the Jesus recorded in history was a Jew and was never white. From his history, he knew that even before the white man came, Africans would go to war with each other and take each other in as slaves; even to settle debts. Despite this confusion, He prayed, he didn’t know to whom but he prayed.

In the morning that he prayed, he looked in the mirror and saw himself as a husband to be. The image he saw started speaking to him. In listening, he learned that he had a fiancé. A week before their marriage, he got her with another man. This led to them breaking off the engagement. He was not sad about this. He loved her genuinely. He knew that she the smell of flowers and she always dreamt of having a garden. This caused him to search out where she lived with her new boyfriend. He then bought different flowers and dedicated time over different nights to plant her a garden. He did the same for her drive way. In his heart, he wanted her to be happy, he did everything in his power to make her happy without interfering with her life. He didn’t want any credit for this. She loved red as a colour, she was 5″6 feet and always had her hair held back in a ponytail.

The morning before the morning that he prayed, he had looked in the mirror and saw himself as a criminal awaiting trial and sentence. The image he saw in the mirror started speaking to him. In listening, he learned that he had a fiancé. A week before her marriage, he got her with another man. This led them to breaking off their engagement. He loved her genuinely and did not want to hurt her. She loved the colour red, she was 5″6 and always had her hair back in a pony tail. He planted flowers that she loved along a street. He learned that he always sat there and waited. He learned that for every lady who walked down that street who was dressed in red, was 5″6 feet with a pony tail who would pick a flower, he would trail, catch, imprison, torture for some time but because he loved his ex-fiancé, he would let these women loose after sometime.

In his laundry, there are days he would wake to dirty clothes filled with soil from gardening and there are days he woke up to red female clothing. He, however, would never remember how any of those got there so he prayed, “Please remind the Lord to leave his light on for me. Remind the Lord to stay with me. Remind the Lord to play with me.”
