‘How do you even house-in with yourself? Why in the darkness of hell would you term yourself Christian? A hypocrite you are. Your existence is a shame to your God!’ Speared unto me were those words. Momentarily, these words inflicted a quisling feeling within. The shame that came with it I couldn’t shirk. Yet accompanying it was an imitable joy and though I tried to put a kibosh on it, I smiled-widely. It portrayed me as churlish though. Then came my response;
‘Those factors you cited above were the brainchild of I yielding to Christianity.
Today, I dare explain my faith. Let attention be drawn to the selection of my words- I will explain my faith not defend.
Christianity is a path taken by the imperfect only. If any man considers himself barren of error then his/her clean feet are not worthy to trod this path. One becomes Christian through accepting the work of Christ at the cross and repenting. That is the only standing qualification. To break it down, ones good works and proper way of life do not matter. The cross is the only way one can be justified. If, in deed, your ways are perfect, would you be in need of justification?
Once one accepts the work of Christ at the cross then a trade is made. Jesus takes away your sins and the power that sin had over you and all you have to do is worship. Knowing I was unable to save my self and make my self perfect I surrendered to Christ. After all, all that was required of me was worship. One may ask, why worship? Worship because, worship gradually transforms the worshiper to take the likeness of the one being worshiped. Yet our God is perfect, the more we worship, the more we look like Him. That is why the outcome of Christianity biblically is that we should be holy, for He is Holy. (1st Peter 1:16)
One may pose a query, whats God’s requirement before our yielding to Him? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. He tells us that, with all our malodorous filth and dirt we should go to Him for a cleansing. He will deal with our filth till we are clean. Lets get scriptural evidence here, Zechariah 3:3-4 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel. 4 He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” Again he said to him, “See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes.” Furthermore in Isiah 1:18 God says, ‘Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool. Even more encouraging Hebrews 4:16 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
To conclude, Christians are just a bunch of misfits in search for redemption. The sins and other socially unacceptable things you see in us that prompt you to call us pretenders are the reasons we yielded to Christianity. For our God is merciful enough to hear the cry of our hearts. After which, He starts his good work in us and no matter how long it takes, one day the deed we did that caused you to term us as hypocrites and pretenders will be there no more. Call me a sinner and I will boldly tell you, it is the reason I am Christian.
